Surprisingly, it stands out as one of Turkey’s premier destinations for scuba diving enthusiasts.

As an adventurous female traveler, I’m naturally drawn to destinations that offer thrilling experiences, making Kas an irresistible choice. Established by the ancient Lycians that date back to the Bronze Age, the town of Kas was initially known as Habesos or Habesa in the Lycan language. The town was later named Antiphellos (or Phellos), derived from a Greek word meaning stony place. Phellos was the name of the city across Kas town.

Regrettably, there are limited options for currency exchange services in Kas. The primary facility for converting currency to the local Turkish Lira is the PTT, which functions as the post office. However, the town boasts numerous ATMs where visitors can conveniently withdraw Turkish Lira using debit or credit cards.

• The PTT (post office) does not accept Indian Rupees. The sole location where Indian Rupees are accepted is at the airport. If you exclusively carry Indian Rupees, consider utilizing the currency exchange centers at the airport.
• Many establishments, including shops, restaurants, and cafes, readily accept Euros and USDs, minimizing any inconvenience for travelers holding these currencies.
• When using your credit or debit card, you should inquire with your respective banks regarding any associated conversion charges.

• Drinking Water –
  • I was taken aback to discover that locals advise against drinking tap water in Kas, prompting me to purchase bottled water during my visit. While there aren’t many, a handful of drinking water outlets are available in the town center, allowing travelers to refill their water bottles.
  • Alternatively, supermarkets offer a cost-effective solution for acquiring drinking water compared to purchasing it at restaurants or cafes. It’s noteworthy that prices vary among supermarkets, with one charging 9 Liras and another only 7 Liras for a water bottle.
• Supermarket – The town center of Kas hosts several supermarkets, offering a convenient shopping experience for visitors. While these supermarkets may not be expensive, they stock a wide range of essentials, ensuring you can find nearly everything you need during your stay.

How to Get to Kas?

By Air

Dalaman Airport

Located near Dalaman city, the Dalaman Airport serves as the nearest airport to Kas. This airport features an international terminal, catering to international flights, and a domestic terminal, facilitating domestic travel. Travelers can conveniently access Kas from Istanbul via flights operated by Turkish Airlines, renowned for its efficient connectivity between Turkish cities.

Transportation from Dalaman Airport to Kas

Covering a distance of approximately 150 kilometers, the journey from Dalaman Airport to Kas typically spans just over 2 hours by road. By Public Transport to Kas

While the complimentary breakfast is provided, it may not rank among the finest in Turkey. Nonetheless, the hospitable staff at Medusa Hotel are known for their warmth and helpfulness, readily assisting guests with any inquiries about the hotel or the town.

Please note that there is no elevator service from the second floor to the rooms. However, the hotel staff are more than willing to assist with luggage transportation.

I observed a common tactic employed by some men, where they initially offer to take photos for you and then request reciprocal photos on their phones. Subsequently, they may pressure you to send the pictures immediately via messaging apps like Telegram or WhatsApp. Following this exchange, they might propose meeting for coffee or suggest a drive to a scenic viewpoint in their car.

In my experience, I politely declined such invitations and promptly left the area. My friend and I had similar situations at different times and locations. Trusting your instincts and exercising caution is paramount in such encounters. Be vigilant and prioritize your safety at all times while exploring Kas.
